Life of a Third Culture Kid (TCK)

About me

My name is Vidya Ganesh. I was born and raised in Lusaka, Zambia (which is in Africa - surprisingly some people don't know that). My mum is Indian and my dad is Sri Lankan. I went to the International School of Lusaka for my High school. I study at the University of Auckland as a domestic student, because we got permanent residency a while back. I moved to New Zealand alone (my family is still in Zambia), to pursue a degree in Computer Science and Environmental Science. Though I visit Zambia often, I hope to eventually settle down there permanently, maybe after I complete my degree. After all, Home is where the Heart is.

When people ask me where I'm from, I always hesitate to answer. I guess it is somewhat a blessing to be a third culture kid as you experience such diverse cultures, but sometimes you tend to question your identity. I love learning about new cultures, travelling, and experiencing new things.

Zambia

  • They won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations
  • They have an abundant wildlife
  • Zambia is a land-locked country (but we still have awesome lake sides)
