An immigrant from Taiwan since 1995, he is notable for his participation in the Software Design Challenge hosted by the university's formerly independent Software Engineering Department (now merged into the Computer Science department) two years in a row during his high school years, winning second place in 2007, while coming first equal in the group category the following year.

Academic History

Chang's enrolment at the University of Auckland in 2009 was initially under a Bachelor of Engineering degree, where he took on an Engineering Science major in 2010. By the end of his first semester in Stage Three, however, Chang found himself struggling with the course material; he has repeatedly claimed that "the restrictive nature of the [Engineering Science] study track, coupled together with the lack of alternative papers available to select from in order to satisfy the course requirements" prevented him from doing well in the course, and has also attributed his later decision to drop the degree to "the overly-heavy focus on the theoretical aspects instead of any practical applications in the science of engineering efficient and cost-effective solutions" as well as the fact that "the remaining majors/specializations in the Engineering department neither provoked my interest nor felt promising in the long term, especially in regards to my career paths in the future".

After a six month break, Chang re-enrolled in the university at the start of 2012 under a Bachelor of Science and majoring in Computer Science, claiming that he was "inspired by his early childhood hobby of video gaming", and that he intends to enter the industry after graduation. Rumors are abound that he is also considering signing up for Acting school some time in the near future.

As of current (Semester 2, 2013), Chang is currently enrolled in the following courses:

  • COMPSCI.111 - Mastering Cyberspace: An Introduction to Practical Computing
  • COMPSCI.320 - Applied Algorithmics
  • COMPSCI.335 - Distributed Objects, Services and Programming
