Scouts

Outside of uni, scouts plays a large role in my social life.

As an adult, you can be involved in scouts as:
an adult leader
plans & runs evenings and the occasional weekend activity for youth members
an assistant leader
helps the leader run the activities
a Rover Scout
the 18+ service section of scouting
As a leader, you can be involved with a:
  1. Kea Club (5-7yos, focus on teamwork, sharing and personal development)
  2. Cub Pack (8-10yos, often more physical activities, and more learning but still big emphasis on teamwork)
  3. Scout Troop (10-14yos, more emphasis on leadership skills, more weekend activities such as camping and tramping)
  4. Venturer Unit (15-18yos, the unit runs itself, the leader is there to supervise and give guidance more than to actually run the activities)
I am:
  1. a Kea Leader
  2. a Rover
  3. a Rover Crew Leader (elected from within the rover crew usually for a period of 1 year, not a position taken by an outside adult leader)

Within scouts there are also different types of scout groups

  • Sea Scouts are the best, because they get to sail, row and go to lots of regattas :-) but I'm biased. Lots of sea scout groups own their own boats and meet close to the water. They also do the normal Land Scout activities.
  • Air Scouts often meet on or near airforce bases. They learn about flight and may have opportunities to fly.
  • Land Scouts are the more traditional scouts. Their activities involve lots of outdoorsy type things, such as back-to-basics camping.

There are also many other exciting opportunities available to Scouts!

Outside of Scouts

I also study arts at Auckland. I'm taking compsci 111 as general ed. I like the lectures because (regardless of the fact that it's a stage one paper) the lecturer seems enthusiastic and enjoys what he teaches.
